SAPPHIRE INTERNSHIPS

ABOUT OUR INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

Our exciting new Internship programmes are available to jobseekers and employers in the Wellington Region.

If you are a jobseeker looking for a rewarding and sustainable career, or a Business owner looking for their next "rising star", then an Internship may be the answer you are looking for!

Our team of Recruiters and Mentors work with local colleges and community groups to locate keen talent to connect with employers in their fields of interest.

An Internship is a full time paid employment placement with a comprehensive support system in place for both the Intern and the Employer.

Interns are supported with pre-employment training and also assisted with any necessary work equipment, tools or gear needed to begin their Internship on the best possible foot. Once they commence their Internship they are paid a full time wage while they continue to learn “on the job”. A dedicated Sapphire Mentor works alongside the Intern providing “wrap-around” support as well as motivating them toward the completion of a personalised training and development plan. Over the 2 year Internship, they will undertake ongoing training which could include an Apprenticeship or other industry-specific training that enables them to increase their capacity and value. All Interns are also assisted to undertake Driver Licensing during their Internship regardless of their chosen industry stream. The aim is for all Interns to be fully licenced Class 1 Drivers by the end on their 2 year Internship.

The Internship programme is also in place to support the employer. Our Mentors will be on hand to help deal with any tricky issues that are impacting on Intern performance. We can also help to coordinate things with the ITO if the Intern is undertaking an Apprenticeship. At the end of the day, we will do whatever it takes to ensure that both parties succeed.

"PUKANA" MAORI INTERNSHIPS

The Māori Trades and Training Fund is part of the COVID-19 Response and Recovery package announced in Budget 2020 and partners with Māori organisations to support delivery of employment-focused training opportunities in a way that is relevant to Māori.

Rapidly growing sectors will benefit from a Māori Trades and Training Fund investment which will see Wellington Maori jobseekers supported into work.

This funding will enable Sapphire Consultants Ltd to help Māori jobseekers into paid training initiatives over two years through its Māori Internships programme. Participants will be working in growth sectors such as construction, security, contact centres, civil construction, heavy trades and administration roles.

We will focus on helping Māori who may face additional barriers to employment, such as rangatahi, sole-parents, career changers and those that have been displaced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On-going, tailored pastoral care will also be provided, including career development support to prepare participants for higher earning and leadership roles.

The Māori Trades and Training Fund was designed to support delivery of by-Māori, for-Māori training opportunities that have a strong focus on employment. Programmes such as this one will lay the foundations for growth and development well into the future.

By creating a skilled local workforce trained to enter rapidly growing sectors, this investment has the potential to improve the long-term wellbeing of Māori and the communities we work in.

We are very keen to engage with any individual that has an interest in becoming an Intern, or any employer that is keen to employ an Intern.
